Propagation and Development of Nonlinear Long Waves in a Water Saving Basin

Abstract The water saving lock layout plays a key role in addressing the navigation hydraulic problems with high dams. However, study of propagation and development nonlinear long waves induced by ship-lock operation basin has received less attention so far. Specially, mechanisms governing formation secondary impact these on impoundments are still not fully understood. In present entire evolution wave was numerically simulated. shape, celerity force were analyzed. It found that leading edge propagated along which varied time space. Two distinct stages could be recognized defined: rapid acceleration phase characterized sharp increase distance gentle where more gradual manner. Moreover, surface slop front equal to 0.045 used as an estimate occurrence waves. Furthermore, results highlighted controlled nonlinearity. These may provide theoretical guidance technical support for design locks.

Resonant interactions of nonlinear water waves in a finite basin.

We study exact four-wave resonances among gravity water waves in a square box with periodic boundary conditions. We show that these resonant quartets are linked with each other by shared Fourier modes in such a way that they form independent clusters. These clusters can be formed by two types of quartets: (1) Angle resonances which cannot directly cascade energy but which can redistribute it am...

Dynamic nonlinear X waves for femtosecond pulse propagation in water.

Recent experiments involving femtosecond pulses in water displayed long-distance propagation analogous to that reported in air. We verify this phenomenon numerically and show that the propagation is dynamic as opposed to self-guided. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the propagation can be interpreted as being due to dynamic nonlinear X waves whose robustness and role in long-distance propagatio...
